I attended Seattle’s storied Garfield High School, where my SAT scores (2370—or 1580, on today’s scale), GPA (3.98 / 4), and college essays got me into, Pomona, the University of Chicago, the Penn honors program, and Columbia, where I matriculated in 2006.
I graduated from Columbia in three years, but found the time to start tutoring part-time in 2007. My college classmates would go on to become New York’s best SAT tutor, a national admissions-essay guru, and top-tier admissions officers—all of whom shared with me invaluable insider knowledge of how the admissions process really works. Since then, my students have gained an average of over 200 points on their SATs and 4 points on their ACTs and submitted exclusively excellent essays and polished applications, attending Berkeley, Yale, and everywhere in between.
I’m young enough to remember college—and the application process—very well and experienced enough to take you through it with minimal stress and no regrets. We’ll start by chatting and matching your interests and desires with colleges that provide an excellent fit, socially, geographically, and academically. Other college counselors often impose their own prejudices or love of prestige upon their students; my only goal is to find a school where you’ll thrive during and afterwards.
My test-prep students benefit from my one-on-one lessons, allowing me to match their pace and adjust to their learning style. Sessions are efficient, focused, and even fun, with students achieving extraordinary gains through individualized programs that fit their busy schedules. To get ahead in today’s competitive environment, I offer academic tutoring as well.
Once you’ve got the needed scores, I’ll help you with your college applications, too. The essays are often the most challenging part of an application, and I’m uniquely qualified to help you with them. My college essays helped me win a National Merit Scholarship and gain admission to Penn’s honors program. My writing has been featured in the Seattle Times, the Daily Dot, CrossCut, Kotaku, and other major publications, leading to several appearances on local and satellite radio. I can help you get places through your writing, too—starting with your personal statement and finishing with every type of supplemental essay.
